Couples and Marriage Counseling

Struggling with communication, trust, or emotional intimacy? Couples counseling is more than just a solution; it's a transformative journey that makes you feel truly seen and heard in your relationship. Our sessions are a collaborative effort, sparking meaningful conversations that draw you closer and deepen your bond. Together, we’ll navigate through the tough discussions, fostering a stronger, more intimate connection. In this space, you and your partner will feel understood, valued, and profoundly connected, paving the way for a resilient and fulfilling partnership.

Our Unique Approach

At Guided Journey Counseling, we don’t rely on a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we integrate proven strategies from Gottman Couple Therapy and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to meet the unique challenges of your relationship. With specialized training in these methods, I work with you to improve communication, build trust, and enhance emotional intimacy.

What to Expect

01

Building a Foundation of Trust

Embarking on the journey of therapy begins with building a solid foundation of trust. In our first few sessions we will:

  • Create a judgement-free environment

  • Recognize and respect the unique perspectives of each partner

  • Set the stage for honest and meaningful conversations

At the start of couples therapy, I take a more hands-on coaching role, actively teaching you and your partner how to communicate effectively and empathetically. It's like learning to sail together, where I help you grasp the essentials of communication. This phase of therapy will help create a foundation of safety and prepare you for the next phase of therapy.

02

Transitioning to Self-Guidance

As therapy moves forward, you'll gain tools to better understand your own feelings and thoughts. This will help you reflect on your emotions and see them more clearly. You'll learn how to share your thoughts and feelings in ways that help avoid conflict and encourage understanding and enhance intimacy with your partner.

Over time, you'll use this new understanding and emotional insight to proactively address challenges in your relationships and maintain a fulfilling relationship.

The Endgame: Terminating Therapy

The ultimate goal of therapy is for you and your partner to independently manage your relationship. By the time we reach this milestone, you'll have mastered the communication and conflict resolution skills necessary to navigate your partnership on your own. As you apply the tools and strategies learned during our sessions, my role as a therapist will gradually become less central, allowing you to maintain a healthy relationship independently.
